Can you share the backstory of your journey into professional football and how you got connected with Empire MGMT?

My journey into professional football began with Empire MGMT in May of 2022. Jayevan Foster approached me while testing at the 2022 East-West Bowl combine and mentioned how impressed he was with my game and how confident he was in my draft stock. Jayevan and I kept in touch often since that day, which helped me through the draft process and my professional development.

Can you talk about the ups and downs of your U sports career, and how you went from not playing your final season, to being drafted (!!!)

My U Sports career began in the fall of 2018. I declared very late and joined the Saint Mary’s University Varsity football team 3 weeks into their regular season. Due to coming in late, I knew that I had a lot to prove even to get on the field. After earning a spot in practice I dressed for my first game and took off from there. Even after joining the team late, I was still able to win Rookie of the Year in my conference and place second in Usports amongst all rookies. I continued to progress throughout the years and was told by my coach that I was receiving a lot of CFL interest after the 2021-2022 season. After putting on a show at the U Sports East-West Bowl I gained a lot of CFL interest. Unfortunately, I couldn't participate in the upcoming season due to off-the-field issues in the classroom. Although this was a major step back Jayevan reassured me that my dream of the CFL was still alive. With my previous numbers from the east-west bowl, a couple of workout sessions, and interviews with different teams, I was able to secure a pick in the 2023 CFL draft.

What was your draft process experience like, as you did not participate in the combine?

My draft process was unique compared to some of the other guys in my draft class. Since I didn’t participate in my final season at SMU, CFL scouts weren't sure if I was still playing football or not. Fortunately, I had Jayevan in my corner letting everyone know that I was still draft-eligible and would be ready for camp. Soon enough I was on calls and interviews with most of the teams ahead of the 2023 draft. On draft day I had my last interview 2 hours before the draft with the Montreal Alouettes. With a few interviews under my belt, I felt confident and ready for this last interview with Montreal. I ended up having a great interview and was drafted by Montreal later that evening.

How has Empire MGMT played a pivotal role in shaping your career and helping you secure a contract with Montreal?

Being an Empire athlete is an amazing honour. I’ve gotten to know Jayevan very well quickly, which has helped me build a trusting and confident relationship. I know that Jayevan always has my best interest at heart when negotiating, which assures me that I’m in the best position possible.

Can you highlight any specific training or mentorship provided that significantly contributed to your success on the field?

Throughout my football career, I’ve had many mentors and trainers who have significantly contributed to my success on the field. The biggest one that comes to mind is my high school positional coach and trainer, Erik Nowell. Coach Nowell not only made me a better player on the field but he was also one of the first people to implement the notion of hard work and resilience in me as a player. Thanks to him, I’ve had the determination to always push for greatness and never be complacent with my situation.

How did it feel winning the Grey Cup in your rookie season?

Winning the Grey Cup in my rookie season will probably be one of the most amazing experiences of my life. I am very grateful to be a part of the organization that is being built in Montreal and to be part of such a close-knit group of guys in the locker room. My year started with a bunch of ups and downs and a lot of uncertainty. To be selected in the draft, make the team, and win the Grey Cup, made 2023 the best year ever.

REFLECTING ON YOUR EXPERIENCE, WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO ASPIRING ATHLETES WHEN SELECTING AN AGENCY/AGENT TO WORK WITH?

Selecting an agent can be very difficult. In some way, I kind of relate it to committing to a University out of high school. You're looking for the best place to further and better your career. It was hard to choose at first but as time passed and with more conversations with different agencies, I found my decision much easier. With Jayevan and Empire MGMT I felt like I had someone to whom I could relate beyond football.

HOW HAS EMPIRE MGMT CONTRIBUTED TO YOUR PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL GROWTH AS AN ATHLETE?

Empire MGMT has been pivotal in my development as a player and person. Jayevan's expertise in the league has made the transition from college to professional athletes considerably easier. Learning all the ins and outs of the CFL in your first year can be difficult so having an agent who is very educated on league rules and policies is very important. Knowing that Jayevan was always available to answer any questions I had gave me such relief and made it much easier to keep my focus on football.

HOW DO YOU ENVISION EMPIRE MGMT CONTINUING TO PLAY A ROLE IN YOUR ONGOING SUCCESS AND CAREER TRAJECTORY

I hope to have a long career in football so I believe that Empire will continue to aid me in my trajectory in the CFL and help me solidify myself as a top-tier player in this league.

WHAT ARE YOU MOST EXCITED ABOUT IN YOUR CFL JOURNEY THAT YOU HOPE TO ACCOMPLISH?

I have many goals set for my career. I’ve already accomplished one of my goals in winning a Grey Cup, next is becoming more of a dominant player in this league and, hopefully, breaking some records along the way.

WHAT’S ONE MEMORY THAT YOU TREASURE WORKING WITH JAYEVAN?

One memory that definitely sticks is meeting up with Jayevan During the Grey Cup Ceremony. I was with my family and teammates celebrating and I remember Jayeven running up to me and yelling “Man, I can’t believe they doubted us! You didn’t play last season, didn’t get a CFL Combine Invite, still got drafted, and now you're a GREY CUP CHAMP!”. It was amazing to look back to see how far I’ve come and how amazing this year has been.

ANY EXCITING PLANS IN YOUR PERSONAL LIFE?

I’m really excited to get started on future business ventures in the works. I also hope to play a bigger role in my community and give back to the neighbourhood and to my former coaches and members of the SMFA (Scarborough Minor Football Association) who helped build me into the player and man that I am today.
